Luggage Storage Near Lions Square, Heraklion
Store your bags five minutes from Lions Square, then explore the heart of Heraklion — the market, the Loggia and the old harbour — without a suitcase.
Lions Square is where almost everyone in Heraklion ends up at some point. It is the meeting point, the landmark people give directions from, and where most walks through the old town begin. It is also not somewhere you want to be pulling a suitcase through on a busy summer afternoon.
Five minutes from the square
We are at Sfakianaki 4, about a five-minute walk from Lions Square and about a minute from Saint Minas Cathedral. That makes it easy to drop your bags first and arrive at the square with your hands free — or to finish your day there and collect your luggage on the way to the airport bus, which stops about a minute from our door.
About Lions Square
Officially it is Eleftheriou Venizelou Square, but hardly anyone calls it that. The everyday name comes from the Morosini Fountain at its centre, a Venetian fountain completed in 1628, with four stone lions supporting its basin. Across the square stands the Basilica of Saint Mark, another Venetian building, which is now used for exhibitions.
In the morning the cafés around the fountain fill up with people eating bougatsa, the local breakfast pastry — a very good way to start a day in the city.
What is within a short walk
- 25th August Street — the pedestrian street running down to the old harbour, past the Venetian Loggia and the church of Agios Titos
- The old harbour and the Koules Fortress at the end of the sea wall
- 1866 Street — the central market street, with food shops and local produce
- Daidalou and Handakos streets — pedestrian streets lined with shops and places to eat
- The Heraklion Archaeological Museum and its world-famous Minoan collection
A simple plan for the day
Drop your bags with us, walk five minutes to Lions Square for a coffee, then head down 25th August Street to the harbour. Come back up through the market for lunch and spend the afternoon at the Archaeological Museum. When you are done, collect your luggage at Sfakianaki 4, and you are already a minute from the airport bus.
Prices and opening hours
It costs €3 per backpack, €4 per cabin or medium suitcase and €5 per large suitcase, per day, with 10% off online — so a backpack for the day is €2.70. We are open Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00, Saturday 09:00–20:00 and Sunday 10:00–20:00.
Walk-ins are welcome. If you are coming on a Sunday, or after 15:00 on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday, book ahead so someone is there to meet you.
