Heraklion Cruise Passengers: Where to Store Your Luggage
Starting or ending a cruise in Heraklion? When you need luggage storage, how far the centre is from the port, and how to time it around boarding and flights.
Heraklion is a regular stop for cruise ships, and it is also where some cruises begin or end. When it comes to luggage, those are two very different days, so it is worth working out which one you are having before you plan anything.
Calling at Heraklion for the day?
If your ship is only visiting for the day, your luggage normally stays in your cabin and you step ashore with a day bag. In that case you do not need luggage storage at all — take what you need for the day and enjoy the city. We would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need.
When cruise passengers do need storage
- Your cruise ends in Heraklion and your flight leaves later in the day
- Your cruise starts in Heraklion and you arrive hours before boarding opens
- You are spending a night or two in Crete before or after the cruise, with a gap between checkout and embarkation
- You are travelling as a family or group and want one place for all the bags
Disembarkation day: from ship to flight
Leaving the ship in the morning with a flight in the evening is the classic case. Bring your luggage up to the centre — about a 15-minute walk from the port, although with large suitcases many people take a taxi for this part — and leave it with us at Sfakianaki 4.
The rest of the day is free. Lions Square and the old town are five minutes away, the Archaeological Museum is in the centre, and Knossos is a short bus ride out. When it is time to go, collect your bags and walk about a minute to the airport bus station. If you would rather not take the bus, get in touch and we can organise an airport transfer.
Embarkation day: from arrival to boarding
If you fly into Heraklion on the day your cruise starts, there is often a gap between landing and boarding. The airport bus brings you into the centre, about a minute from our door. Leave your luggage, spend a few hours in the city, then collect it and head down to the port with plenty of time before boarding closes.
Your cruise line sets the embarkation window, so check it before choosing a collection time, and allow for the walk or taxi to the port.
Fitting it around our opening hours
We are open Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00, Saturday 09:00–20:00 and Sunday 10:00–20:00. On Monday, Wednesday and Saturday after 15:00, and all day on Sunday, staff are on site by appointment, so book ahead for those times. Booking online in advance also takes 10% off.
What it costs
Storage is priced per bag, per day: €3 for a backpack, €4 for a cabin or medium suitcase and €5 for a large suitcase, with 10% off online. Two large suitcases and a backpack for the day come to €11.70. Groups can put every bag under a single booking with one reference.
Cruise day checklist
- Keep passports, cruise documents and medication with you
- Confirm embarkation or disembarkation times with your cruise line
- Leave a buffer for getting between the port and the centre
- Book ahead if your drop-off or collection falls on a Sunday, or after 15:00 on a Monday, Wednesday or Saturday
