Luggage Storage Near Heraklion Port for Ferry Passengers
Arriving or leaving Heraklion by ferry? Leave your bags in the city centre, a 15-minute walk from the port, and enjoy the hours around your crossing hands-free.
Heraklion Port is where a lot of journeys around Crete begin and end: overnight ferries from Piraeus, boats to Santorini and the rest of the Cyclades, and connections that rarely line up with check-in and checkout times. If you have hours to fill before or after a crossing, the easiest move is to leave your luggage in the centre and see the city instead of the waiting area.
How far the port is from us
We are at Sfakianaki 4, roughly a 15-minute walk from the port. The walk into the centre is uphill. One pleasant route is 25th August Street, the pedestrian street that climbs from the old harbour to Lions Square — and Lions Square is about five minutes from our door. With a small bag the walk is easy; with several large suitcases, a taxi for that one leg is worth considering.
Arriving by ferry
Overnight ferries from Piraeus tend to arrive early in the morning, often long before your accommodation will let you check in. We open at 09:00 (10:00 on Sundays), so if your boat docks earlier, have breakfast by the harbour or at Lions Square first, then drop your bags and start the day.
From there the day is yours: the Archaeological Museum, the old town, or a bus out to Knossos, with your luggage waiting in the centre until your room is ready.
Leaving by ferry
Some crossings, including the overnight boats to Piraeus, leave in the evening, which creates a long gap after checkout. Drop your bags in the morning, spend the day in the city, and collect them on your way down to the port.
Plan your collection time around two things: our closing time (21:00 on weekdays, 20:00 at weekends) and the boarding time your ferry company recommends, plus the 15-minute walk. For a late-evening departure, that usually means collecting before we close and heading to the port with time to spare.
Between two ferries
If you are changing boats in Heraklion — arriving from one island and leaving for another later in the day — the same approach works. Store what you are carrying for the day. And if you are heading off to the islands for a few days with a lighter bag, leave the big suitcase with us; from three days the 25% long-stay rate applies automatically.
What it costs
€3 per backpack, €4 per cabin or medium suitcase and €5 per large suitcase, per day, with 10% off when you book online. A large suitcase and a backpack for the day come to €7.20. You pay in cash or by card when you collect.
Before you walk down to the port
- Check what time your ferry company wants you at the port for boarding — it can be well before departure
- Keep tickets, ID and anything you need on board with you, not in a stored bag
- If you drop off or collect on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday after 15:00, or on a Sunday, book ahead
