Luggage Lockers in Heraklion vs Staffed Storage: Which Should You Choose?
Looking for luggage lockers in Heraklion? How self-service lockers compare with staffed luggage storage on bag size, security, price and opening hours — and when each one makes sense.
If you have searched for lockers in Heraklion, you probably want one simple thing: somewhere safe to leave your bags for a few hours or a few days while you get on with Crete. Self-service lockers are one way to do that; staffed luggage storage is the other. They solve the same problem differently, and the right choice depends on what you are carrying and how long you need to leave it.
How luggage lockers usually work
A luggage locker is a self-service box. You find a free compartment, pay at a machine or in an app, and lock your bags inside with a code or a key. Nobody checks your bags in and nobody hands them back. That makes a locker quick when it suits your luggage — and less useful when it does not:
- Compartments come in fixed sizes, so a large suitcase, several bags at once or a bike may simply not fit.
- Many lockers charge by the hour or for a fixed period, so check how a longer stay is priced before you commit.
- If a code, key or payment fails, there may be no one on site to help.
- Lockers inside a station or shopping centre are usually only reachable while that building is open.
How staffed storage works with us
We have no lockers. You hand your bags to a person, every bag is tagged, you get a receipt, and our staff keep your luggage in a locked room with CCTV until you come back for it. We are a family business at Sfakianaki 4 in the centre of Heraklion — the first luggage storage in the city — and we are open every day. There is more detail in how we keep your bags safe.
- Any size or shape: suitcases and backpacks, but also prams, bikes, surfboards, musical instruments and boxes. We do not accept food.
- One booking for the whole group — mix sizes freely, up to 50 bags.
- A few hours, overnight or a whole week all work the same way.
- You pay at the store, in cash or by card. Nothing is paid online.
What it costs
Our prices are per bag, per day: €3 for a backpack, €4 for a cabin or medium suitcase and €5 for a large suitcase. Booking online takes 10% off, and stays of 3 days or more get 25% off instead. When you can drop off and collect
We are open Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00, Saturday 09:00–20:00 and Sunday 10:00–20:00. On Monday, Wednesday and Saturday after 15:00, and all day on Sunday, staff are on site by appointment, so book in advance if you are coming at those times. Outside them, walk-ins are welcome.
Which one should you choose?
A locker can be fine for one small bag and a short stop, if there happens to be one where you need it. Staffed storage makes more sense when you are carrying a large suitcase or several bags, have something awkward like a pram, a bike or a surfboard, need to leave luggage overnight or for several days, or would simply rather hand your bags to a person and get them back from one.
