Luggage Storage in Heraklion: The Complete Guide
Where to store luggage in Heraklion city centre, what it costs, opening hours, how booking works, and how staffed storage compares with lockers.
Most visitors to Heraklion run into the same problem at some point: a checkout time that does not match a departure time. A ferry at night, a flight in the evening, a room that is not ready until the afternoon. This guide puts everything about luggage storage in Heraklion in one place — where, how much, when and how it works — so you can sort it out in a few minutes and get on with your day.
Where to store luggage in Heraklion
The most practical place to leave bags is the city centre, because that is where your day actually happens. We are at Sfakianaki 4, 71201 Heraklion, on a small street in the centre, and most of the places travellers need are within walking distance:
- Saint Minas Cathedral — about 1 minute on foot
- The airport bus station — about 1 minute
- Lions Square and the Morosini Fountain — about 5 minutes
- Heraklion Port — about 15 minutes
- Heraklion Airport — around 6.5 km away
What you can store
Luggage of any size. When you book, bags fall into three simple groups — backpacks, cabin or medium suitcases, and large suitcases — and you can mix them in a single booking. Sports bags, oversized cases and the shopping you did not plan to carry all fit into one of those groups. One booking covers up to 50 bags, which is enough for most families and groups.
How much it costs
- Backpack — €3 per day
- Cabin or medium suitcase — €4 per day
- Large suitcase — €5 per day
Prices are per bag, per day — not per hour. Booking online takes 10% off automatically, and storage of three days or more gets 25% off instead; the two discounts do not combine. Both the drop-off day and the collection day count, so a same-day drop-off and pick-up is one day, and Monday to Wednesday is three.
In practice, a large suitcase for the day costs €4.50 with the online discount and a backpack costs €2.70. You pay at the store when you collect, in cash or by card. Nothing is charged online.
Opening hours, and when to book ahead
- Monday to Friday: 09:00–21:00
- Saturday: 09:00–20:00
- Sunday: 10:00–20:00
Walk-ins are welcome during regular hours. On Monday, Wednesday and Saturday after 15:00, and all day on Sunday, staff are on site by appointment, so book in advance if your drop-off or collection falls in one of those windows.
How booking and drop-off work
Booking online takes about 30 seconds: choose your dates and times, add your bags by size, and enter your name and phone number. There is no account to create, no email address and no card details. You see the final price before you confirm and receive a booking reference straight away.
At the store you hand your bags over in person, which usually takes about a minute. When you come back, give your name or reference, collect your luggage and pay.
Two small extras travellers appreciate: customers can use our toilet free of charge, and we can organise a transfer to or from Heraklion Airport if you get in touch.
Lockers or staffed storage?
Many people start by searching for luggage lockers in Heraklion. A locker can be fine for one small bag, but compartments come in fixed sizes and are usually self-service. We work differently: your luggage is handed to a person, kept indoors on our premises and handed back to you by a person. Large suitcases, several bags at once or an awkward shape are not a problem.
Is it safe?
Every booking has its own reference, linked to your name, phone number and the bags you left, and that is what we check before anything is handed back. As with bag storage anywhere, keep passports, medication, laptops and valuables with you rather than in a stored bag.
Which situation are you in?
The details change a little depending on why you need somewhere to leave your bags:
- Evening flight: the airport bus station is about a minute from our door, so you collect your bags on the way to the bus.
- Ferry: the port is roughly a 15-minute walk from the centre, so leave your bags with us rather than waiting around the harbour.
- Cruise starting or ending in Heraklion: store luggage between leaving the ship and your flight, or before boarding.
- Just a few hours: a same-day drop-off and collection is charged as one day, from €2.70 with the online discount.
- Several days away: from three days, the 25% long-stay rate applies automatically.
- Family or group: one booking and one reference for everyone, with every size mixed together.
Each of these situations has its own, more detailed article in our journal.
